How old is your camera? The age options explained
For most DSLR, mirrorless and video camera models the form asks how old the camera is. Here is how to work it out and what the options mean.
The options on the form
- 1 to 4 months
- 4 to 12 months
- 12 to 18 months
- 18 to 24 months
- More than 2 years
Count from the purchase date, not the launch year
Age means how long since the camera was bought new. The bill date is the easiest reference. Without a bill, choose the option you are sure of; when in doubt, pick the older one — the price is confirmed at pickup anyway.
When the form does not ask
The age question appears on 138 of the 152 models on this site. Compact camera pages do not ask it, and a few DSLR and video camera models do not either. If you do not see the question, the price for that model does not depend on age.
Age and the launch year on the model page
Model pages show the launch year where we have it (119 of 152 models, from 2013 to 2025). That is when the model came out, not when yours was bought — the form asks for the second.
Questions people ask
My camera is under a month old. What do I pick?
Pick 1 to 4 months. It is the youngest option on the form.
Do I need the bill to prove the age?
No. The bill is one of the five original items and it helps the price, but the age option is your own answer. Our team checks the camera itself at pickup.
