Shutter count: why it is not on the quote form

Shutter count is a real number some sellers already know, but it is not one of the four grade cards or the five original items on the quote form. Here is why the form leaves it out, and when you can still use it.

The grade is about what you can see

The quote form asks for one of four grades: Flawless, Good, Average or Below Average. Each grade is defined by what shows on the body: scuffs, dents, screen wear and the grip rubber, not by how many times the shutter has fired. A heavily used body that still looks clean grades the same as a lightly used one that looks the same, because the form is answered by looking, not by a number only a tool can read.

Where it can still help you

Our team checks the camera at pickup and confirms the grade there, the same way for every model. If you already know your shutter count and believe it supports the grade you picked, you can mention it on the call; it is useful context, not a separate question on the form, and it does not replace the check at pickup.

If you want to check it anyway

Most Nikon and Sony bodies write the number into every photo they take, so a basic photo-metadata viewer on one JPEG shows it in seconds. Canon, Fujifilm and Panasonic bodies mostly keep it off the file and show it only through the camera menus or a service counter, so a local repair shop can usually read it for you. A camera with a fully electronic shutter, common on many newer mirrorless bodies and on every action camera, wears differently and often has little or nothing to show.

Why it is still worth knowing

The number does not change which grade fits your camera, but it is one more fact you can have ready before our team arrives, alongside the original items and the age you choose.

Questions people ask

Does a high shutter count lower my quote automatically?

No. The four grades and the age band decide the price, and shutter count is not a field on the form.

Can I tell your team the count at pickup?

Yes, you are welcome to mention it. The grade is still confirmed by checking the camera, the same way for every model.
