About this model

Megapixels16.2
SensorAPS-C
Launched2011

The D5100 (2011) was the first Nikon in the D5000 line with a side-hinged screen: a 16.2-megapixel DX sensor shared with the D7000 of the same period, the EXPEED 2 processor, 11 autofocus points, 4 frames per second, a 3-inch vari-angle screen, 1080p video, a built-in flash, a single SD slot and the EN-EL14 battery. Like the rest of the line it has no focus motor in the body. Most D5100s reach us after ten or more years with the same owner.

What moves the resale value of a Nikon D5100

Bodies this old are graded on how they were kept, not on their age alone: look at the grip rubber, the eyecup, the screen hinge, the hot shoe and the card door, then check that the mirror is clean and the flash pops up. In this price band the battery keeps the largest share of the original-item amounts, then the charger, then the bill and the box; the bag keeps the least. Age is asked in five bands counted from the bill date; a 2011 body always falls in the last band, a single fixed step.

Lenses usually sold with the Nikon D5100

No lens rows are attached to this page yet. If you are selling the D5100 with the 18-55mm VR kit zoom, the 18-105mm VR, the 55-200mm or any other F-mount lens, tick My lens is not listed, type the lens name, and the team prices it on the call from the rows used on the other Nikon DX pages. Filters, a bag beyond the original one and a tripod are not priced rows.

How the quote works for this model

Pick the grade, type any lens you are handing over, tick the original items you still have, choose the age band and verify your mobile number. The quote shows the body line and the total; the representative checks the sensor, the mount, the shutter and the folding screen at pickup and pays that amount when the camera matches your answers.

Bodies are priced on their own; every listed lens you tick is added from its own price row. Four grades (Flawless, Good, Average, Below Average), five original items (box, bill, charger, battery, bag) and five age bands, from under four months to more than two years, set the number. Read the guide before you answer.

Questions sellers ask about the Nikon D5100

The screen on my D5100 has marks on the back cover but the picture is fine. Which grade?

Marks on the back of the folding screen are cosmetic wear and still fit Good when everything works. Deep scratches on the display itself, a loose hinge or a dead pixel block count against the grade, so pick Average and say so on the call.

I lost the D5100 charger years ago and charge with a spare. What do I tick?

Leave Original charger unticked and tick the items you do have. A third-party charger is not the original item, so it does not add to the number; bring it along anyway so the camera can be tested with a charged battery at pickup.
