The HDR-CX405 (2015) is the small Full HD Handycam that sold in large numbers in India: a 1/5.8-inch back-illuminated Exmor R sensor, a fixed 30x ZEISS Vario-Tessar zoom, optical SteadyShot, 1080p recording up to 60 frames per second in AVCHD and MP4, a 2.7-inch screen, a USB cable that folds into the hand strap, microSD and Memory Stick Micro slots and the NP-BX1 battery. It has no viewfinder and no Wi-Fi. Most CX405s reach us after family functions and school events have moved to a phone.
What moves the resale value of a Sony Handycam HDR-CX405
Grade the CX405 as one piece: the front element and lens cover, the zoom lever, the hand strap, the screen hinge, the card door and the built-in USB cable, then the body shell. Zoom through the full range and record a short clip to make sure the card slot works. In this price band the battery keeps the largest share of the original-item amounts, then the charger, then the box, then the bill; the bag keeps the least. Age is asked in five bands counted from the bill date, and a 2015 body always falls in the last band, a single fixed step.
Lenses usually sold with the Sony Handycam HDR-CX405
There is no lens list on this page because the zoom cannot be removed. A tripod, a case beyond the original one, a spare NP-BX1 or a memory card is not a priced row; bring them along at pickup if you wish and mention them on the call.
How the quote works for this model
Pick the grade, tick the original items you still have, choose the age band and verify your mobile number. The quote shows the camera line and the total; the representative checks the lens, the stabiliser, recording to the card and the screen at pickup and pays that amount when the camera matches your answers.
Bodies are priced on their own; every listed lens you tick is added from its own price row. Four grades (Flawless, Good, Average, Below Average), five original items (box, bill, charger, battery, bag) and five age bands, from under four months to more than two years, set the number. Read the guide before you answer.
Questions sellers ask about the Sony Handycam HDR-CX405
The CX405 charges through the USB cable in the strap. Which item is the charger?
Tick Original charger only if you still have the Sony AC adaptor that came in the box and plugs into that cable. The cable in the hand strap is part of the camera, not the charger, so it does not count on its own.
Is the CX405 the same as the CX440?
No. The CX440 adds Wi-Fi and internal memory to the same body and has its own row where it is listed. This page is the CX405; the model name is printed on the side under the lens, so read it before you choose.
