The A1 (2021) is the Sony Alpha body that does everything at once: a 50-megapixel stacked back-illuminated full-frame sensor, the BIONZ XR processor, 30 frames per second with the electronic shutter, 8K video at 30p and 4K at 120p, a 9.44-million-dot viewfinder, 5-axis in-body stabilisation, two card slots that each take CFexpress Type A or SD UHS-II, weather sealing and the NP-FZ100 battery. It uses the same E mount as every other Alpha. The A1s we buy come from wildlife, sports and wedding shooters who are moving to a newer flagship or splitting one body into two.
What moves the resale value of a Sony A1
Flagship bodies work hard, so grade the A1 on the grip rubber, the two card doors, the HDMI and USB-C ports, the eyecup and the screen hinge before the paint; a 50-megapixel sensor also shows dust and marks at f/16, so clean it and check it. In this price band the bill keeps the largest share of the original-item amounts, the box and the battery come next, then the charger; the bag keeps the least. Age is asked in five bands counted from the bill date, and bodies under four months lose nothing for age.

Questions sellers ask about the Sony A1
Does an A1 with a high shutter count get a lower quote?
The form never asks for a shutter count. Grade, age band and original items set the number; the representative checks that the shutter, the sensor and the stabiliser work at pickup, not how many frames they have taken.
I have the A1 with the VG-C4EM vertical grip. Is the grip priced?
No. The five original items the form asks about are the box, bill, charger, battery and bag. The grip is not one of them, so the on-screen number does not change; mention it on the call and bring it along.
